2012 Turkey Trot

We held another successful Turkey Trot, raising funds for the PTO. Thank all that walked and ran with us, we really appreciate your support!

On Thursday, November 22, 2012, The Point Harmony PTO will be hosting our second annual Turkey Trot 5K run/walk.  The cost will be $20 and $25 for race day registration.  Funds from this event will support PTO programming, technology purchases and school improvements.  Registration will be completed on-line at http://www.tristateracer.com/RaceDirector/race.php?RaceID=803

Volunteer Services Minutes

September 10, 2012 @ 9 am

 

Popcorn Friday Update     

  • Started last week and had no issues. We will need to review the cost of the popcorn as it appears to be increasing. Sam’s Club will no longer carry it so we will need to order the popcorn from US FoodService. Meggan is looking into this.

 

Panther Pride Items          

  • Order forms will go out this week for the short sleeve tie dye tshirts. The 1st Panther Pride Friday will be October 5.

 

Afterschool Clubs

  • Started this past week; two Lego clubs and one Frisbee. Forms for October clubs should be coming home in the next week.

 

Library Volunteers               

  • We are still in need of volunteers in a few of the classes. Kindergarten won’t begin checking out books until November.  If you can help in the library please contact Becky Hundley.

 

School Pictures                        

  • Make up pictures will be on October 17.

 

Yearbook                           

  • Would like to  have at least 2 volunteers in each grade to take pictures  of that grade activites. Would like to form a committee that will met after the PTO meeting on Thurs Sept 13. If you are interested please contact Amber Cobb Pontier.

 

Fall Book Fair                               

  • We will need volunteers to help set up, work and clean up.  Oct 17- 19 is the preview week and Oct 22- 26 will be buying week.  Book Fair Family Night is Oct 22 . We are needing volunteers to set up, sell food  and clean up. Can work in half hour shifts. Please see Becky Hundley or Joanna Gillenwater if you can help.

 

Parent Teacher Conference Meals

  • October 16 will be Parent Teacher Conference Day from 12-8 at the school. There is no school that day.  PTO will serve lunch and dinner since the teachers will be at the school all day. We are in need of volunteers to bring in food items and drinks. The luncheon will be held in the cafeteria since the library will have book fair.

 

Winter Wonderland                         

  • Dec 10 – 14 will be preview week, Buying will be Dec 17- 19 and are needing volunteers to set up, work and clean up. This will give students the chance to purchase small items for the holidays in the library.

 

 The next Volunteer Services meeting will be Monday, October 1, 2012 at 9 am.

Beth Scott, Principal Welcome

  • Glad the parking lot getting better with the drop off and pick up of the kids getting  smoothly.
  • The teachers and facility will be having a meeting about the Fall party to see if the students can wear costumes and what the teachers expect the parties be like. This will be communicated as soon as possible to parents and students.
  • We have 621 students enroll so parent volunteers are must to have a great school year.

Homeroom Parent  Assignments

  • There are still a quite a few teachers without a homeroom parent.
  • Please note that we can have more than 1 HRP in a room; we have several classes with overages so sharing duties would be encouraged.
  • There will be a packet going out to the HRP in the coming weeks explaining the duties.

Panther Pride Items

  • Order forms will be going out in the next two weeks.
  • 1st Friday every month child wear Panther Pride tshirts. Please refer to school calendars for announcements.

After School Clubs

  • Will be starting in September and will be held Tues , Thurs 3 :00 pm – 4:00 pm.
  • There will be 2 clubs a month 1 active and 1 educational  being offered.

Library Volunteers

  • Needing Volunteers starting the week of Sept 4 for checkout.
  • Needing volunteers to cover all classes.

Box Tops

  • Students can return the Box Tops to their teacher.
  • You may go on Box Top website and enter sweepstakes daily for 25, 000 award to PHE.
  • The class with most Box Tops will get a prize.

 Campbell Soup Label

  • We have purchased several items last year due because of label collection.
  • When sending labels please cut the point value and the Ups label also.

School Pictures

  • September 6th is Fall Picture Day.

Book Fair

  • Fall Book Fair Buying is Oct 22 – Oct 2.
  • If you are interested in helping set up, run it, tear down  please contact Becky Hundley 304 543 5629.
  • Book Fair Family Buying Night is October 22 from 5-7 pm.
  • PTO will be selling refreshments that night – we need a coordinator and volunteers to work that evening. Please contact Jennifer Igo if you can help.

Yearbook

  • We are looking for 3 volunteers in each grade to take pictures of parties, special events, etc. Please contact Amber Cobb if you can help.

Staff Appreciation

  • PHE Treat Team is run by Lucy Templeton at 304-932-7862. If you would like to join, please contact Lucy. This group brings treats every Wednesday to the staff at the school.
  • Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be held in May with a date given later. We need a coordinator for this event. If you are interested please see Jennifer Igo.

Field Day

  • This will be held in May at the end of the school year.
  • If interested in being coordinator or volunteer please contact Mrs. Minturn.

50’s Day

  • Needing volunteers to decorate the gym and this will take place in May. If you can help please see Ms. Minturn.

Parent Teachers Conference Lunch

  • This will be held October 16. Volunteers are needed for bringing lunch and dinner items to the school for the staff.
  • We need a few volunteers to coordinate the menu and drop off times. If you are interested please contact Jennifer Igo.

Classroom Copies

  • Doesn’t have to be homeroom parent; done once per week.  Talk with the teacher and see if they need a person and what will be a good day to make copies.

Other Special Events

  • Talking about having a Santa workshop this year. If you are interested helping with this committee  contact Pam Neff, Meggan Phillips, or Jo Anna Gilliwater.

The next Volunteer Meeting will be held on Monday, September 10 at 9am in the cafeteria.

 

The Point Harmony Elementary School PTO is pleased to announce that in September we will be hosting a Frisbee club and two sessions of the wildly popular Lego Club.  Frisbee Club will cost $15 and Lego Club will cost $20 – these fees are used for equipment/supplies and for other school improvements and PTO programs.


 

WELCOME BACK

First Day of School is Friday, August 17th.  The Point Harmony Elementary School PTO is excited to welcome the students back for another exciting year.  Stay tuned for information about events and after school clubs.

Pledge Of Allegiance

Starting next Friday, the recordings of Point Harmony Classes reciting the Pledge Of Allegiance will be shown on Channel 8 News (Suddenlink 7) at around 6:10AM and and Fox 11 News (Suddenlink 12) at around 7:10AM. Mad Scientist Club will be the First Spring PTO After School Club.  This club will be for students K-2 and will cost $20.  We will meet each Thursday in February.
